La belle dame sans merci de John Keats

La belle dame sans merci lu par l'acteur du film Bright Star.

Et voici le script:

O what can ail thee knight at arms ? -a Knight = a warrior
Alone and palely loitering -to loiter =to wander = errer
The sedge has withered from the lake -the sedge (a plant) is
And no birds sing withered (dry/dead)

O what can ail thee knight at arms ? - to ail= to suffer
So haggard and so woe begone -haggard = you look tired/sick
The squirrel’s granary is full - the squirrel’s granary(grain) is where he puts his nuts
And the harvest’s done -the harvest = la récolte

I see a lily on thy brow a lily (a white flower = …………) brow=…………
With anguish moist and fever dew - dew= …………………..
And on thy cheek a fading rose -cheek = ………….
Fast withered too

I met a lady in the meads -the meads / the moor
Full beautiful, a faery’s child -faery= fairy
Her hair was long, her foot was light
And her eyes were wild

I made a garland for her head
And bracelets too and fragrant zone
She looked at me as she did love
And made sweet moans

I took her on my pacing steed -pacing steed (=horse)
And nothing else saw all day long
For sidelong would she bend and sing
Her faery’s song

She gave me roots of relish sweet - roots are parts of plants in the earth
And honey wild and manna dew -honey = ………….. manna dew
And sure in language strange she said
I love thee true - I love thee= you

She took me to her elfin grot
And there she wept and sighed full sore -sigh = weep/ cry: …………..
And there I kissed her wild wild eyes
With kisses four.

And there she lulled me asleep - lull someone asleep = sing to make someone sleep
And there I dreamt O woe betide -woe betide =
The latest dream I ever dreamt
On the cold hillside

I saw pale Kings and Princes too
Pale warriors, death pale were they all
They cried:”La Belle Dame Sans Merci
Hath thee in Thrall » “hath thee in thrall » = t’as ensorcelé

I saw their starved lips in the gloom -lips = …………… / starved (you don’t eat)
With horrid warning gaped wide gaped =opened
And I awoke and found me here awake/awoke/awoken
On the cold hillside

And this is why I sojourn here -I sojourn = I stay
Alone and palely loitering
Though the sedge has withered from the lake
And no birds sing

Who is really the lady ?
